RECOMMENDED READING: "The 3 Season Diet", By John Douillard.
About This Book: Do you drink coffee in the morning to get your day started? Do you work through lunch? Do you crave sweets or a nap in the afternoon? Have you tried losing weight in the past three years and given up? Do you tend to have bouts of worry, anxiety, and depression? Do you have difficulty remembering things? If you do, this book will help you restore balance to your daily life. By following its simple instructions for eating foods appropriate to each season, adjusting your diet to your body type, eating at the optimal time of the day, and exercising without triggering a survival response, you will not only lose excess pounds and maintain your ideal weight, you will generate energy and power in your life.Derived from a 5,000-year-old traditional medical system, the 3-season diet does what no other diet will: work along with the body's natural response to the changing seasons, feeding it what it craves and can best utilize at all times. In spring, for instance, we want salads, berries, and leafy greens, a naturally low-fat diet. And in winter, we yearn for hearty soups, nuts, warm grains, and high-fat and protein-rich foods such as fish and meat. Following the foods that nature provides seasonally creates the best diet for balancing weight, mood, and energy for anyone living anywhere on earth.
Praise:
"The 3-Season Diet is very informative. It helps me on game days, when I need energy most. This book is a winner." -- Kendall Gill, team captain, the New Jersey Nets

Eclectic Energies: http://www.eclecticenergies.com/
This site is about working with your energetic state. Assessing it, by using the Yijing or the chakra test, or tuning it, by doing chakra meditations, exercises or other techniques.
Very well worth a look. Thank you to my yoga teacher Ann Russell for pointing this site out to me.

ALMOND DRINK:
Soak ten almonds overnight in water. In the morning, remove the skins. Place almonds in a blender with one cup warm milk. Add a pinch of cardamom powder, and freshly ground black pepper, and one teaspoonful of honey. Blend for five minutes on high speed and drink. This drink helps to improve energy and "ojas" (vital life energy governing the body).
Enjoy! - Alex

YOGI TEA: Here is a wonderful recipe for something called Yogi Tea. It is great before doing yoga, as it opens the sinuses and is very refreshing and invigorating. I love this stuff!
(2) tsp ground fresh ginger, (4) cardamom seeds, (8) whole cloves, (1) cinammon stick.
Add these ingredients to (8) cups of water, bring to a boil, then lower flame and boil down to (4) cups. Add one ounce of milk and enjoy! - Alex

JIA WEI XIAO YAO SAN (Free and Easy Wanderer)
Breaking up with your lover can cause all sorts of stress. Mine prompted me to see a Chinese Herbalist. She prescribed "Jai Wei Xiao Yao San" a.k.a. "Free And Easy Wanderer". This tea medicine is truly amazing stuff. Primarily used by women for PMS, it is also great for men who are enduring uncommon stress in their lives! (Male PMS?) Anyway, I highly recommend having a bottle of this around the house for those extremely stressful days. Your Chi energy goes UP, your stress levels fall to ZERO, and this formula also detoxifies the liver and blood at the same time. I give this chinese herbal stress remedy a WOW factor of 10 (out of 10)!! No side effects, and you do not feel drugged or drowsy, on the contrary, you feel calm, alert, and like a "Free and East Wanderer"!

PS: I am not a doctor or a physician -- so take this only as you would advice from a friend!

PAIN RELIEF CREAMS:
As a 47 year old practicing yoga, I have come to learn of two MIRACLE joint and muscle pain relief creams I highly recommend!
The first one is topical MSM Cream, sold by Puritan's Pride, primarily for chronic (arthritic) pain but also great for temporary joint pain relief. http://www.puritan.com/
The second one is a menthol penetrating MUSCLE AND JOINT pain relief cream (similar but far superior to Ben Gay) called "Jivamukti China Gel" (Therapeutic Gel) and can be purchased in the online shopping area of their website. It acts fast and can be applied to trouble spots BEFORE yoga class, so it acts during the class and you feel like new by the time your class is finished! http://www.jivamuktiyoga.com/boutique/index.html
